Job Summary

This position is based at the University Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center environment which is nationally ranked and recognized for academic research, quality standards and overall patient experience. Security Dispatchers are responsible for providing dispatch services for multiple University of Utah Health facilities. The incumbent uses multi-line telephone and computer systems to receive and relay information to the appropriate units and Security Teams, then creates and logs incident details using electronic dispatch systems.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a multi-line telephone system, alerting system, and a radio base station. Monitor and respond to a variety of technical systems and alarms.
  • Ask questions to interpret, analyze and anticipate a caller's situation as to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch Security Officers, or refer callers to other areas departments as appropriate.
  • Determine and assign the level of priority of a call and enter the data into a computer-aided dispatch system for radio dispatch purposes.
  • Provide support for the Security Officers by monitoring of activities via radio and tracking their locations and duties.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch records, departmental logs, and forms.
  • Attend department meetings, in-service training, and other meetings as required.
  • Disseminates all relevant information to the appropriate persons via radio, page group, overhead paging, email, and telephone.
  • Contacts campus police dispatch for assistance with specific hospital emergencies
Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
• Ability to successfully pass a background check
• Demonstrated communications skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service
• A valid Utah Driver's License to be obtained within 6 months of hire.

  • The ability to think quickly and clearly under stressful situations, establishing priorities and passing on information as needed.
  • Critical thinking skills and good judgement under pressure. Must be capable of reacting logically to unusual situations.
  • The ability to work at a fast pace and make swift decisions to facilitate effective and efficient communication during stressful and emergency events.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruption.
  • Detailed information gathering and writing skills. Excellent spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to work shift work that includes weekends, holidays, and extended shifts. Shifts are subject to change with or without notice.
