Job Summary

Position Summary:

As a Women's Health Advanced Practice Clinician, your contributions will be vital in providing evidence-based care for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause symptoms in the Midlife Women's Health and Menopause Medicine Program. The ideal candidate must be a certified menopause practitioner and have passed the competency exam. In addition, medical experience in sexual medicine, vulvar disorders, and weight management is desirable.

Type: full-time, between 30-40 hours/week

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (with admin time)

Essential Functions:
  • Serves in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Midlife Women's Health, and Menopause Medicine Program. Will work in menopause clinics and medical group visits in an ambulatory setting.
  • Collaborates and works closely with the medical director of the program, other clinician peers, learners/trainees, medical assistants, health care support staff, and unlicensed admin support staff.
  • Perform services in the clinic including, but not limited to, well-woman care/annual exams, treating perimenopause/menopause symptoms with a variety of methods, including traditional and integrative health approaches, and managing common primary care concerns.
  • Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories.
  • Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on the patient's condition.
  • Consult with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within the scope of validated competence.
  • Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
  • Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and educational events/forums for health care professionals and community women.
  • Counsels patients, families, and significant others about health and illness and promotes health maintenance.
  • Supports an inclusive, transparent, and supportive work environment.

Requirements
  • Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited program as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife or Physician Assistant.
  • Certified Menopause Practitioner and successful completion of competency exam.
  • Preferred medical experience in sexual medicine, vulvar disorders, and weight management.
  • Prior experience and/or background in midlife women's health & menopause care preferred.
  • Strong clinical and assessment skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Administers controlled drugs, intravenous solutions, antibiotics, and other agents used to treat medical problems.
Anticipates and recognizes deviations from normal infant deliveries and institutes procedures designed to safeguard the well-being of mothers and babies, such as resuscitation of newborns, treatment of hemorrhage and shock, fetal distress, prolapsed cord, and other life threatening conditions.
Performs spontaneous vaginal deliveries and episiotomies and consults with a physician when complications occur.
Develops, implements, and evaluates broad program goals, objectives, and standards for the provision of health care to childbearing families.
Designs and participates in research that is relevant to health care needs of patients, their families, and the community.
Teaches prenatal classes for expectant parents to help ensure the safe pregnancy and delivery of the patients.
Manages the care of newborns and infants by providing comprehensive primary health care maintenance through home visits or clinic consultation.
Records the patient's medical, obstetrical, family, socioeconomic, and dietary history in order to monitor the progress of patient's health status.

Minimum Qualifications

Required
Current licensure to practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife in the State of Utah.
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association, or obtain within one month of hire, as determined by credentialing.
Preferred
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
National certification as a Nurse Midwife.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
