Job Summary

As part of the development of a national Center for Research on Education & Justice Opportunity ( CREJO), the Research Manager will provide leadership and oversight of a national project tracking prison higher education programs and affiliated institutions of higher education. This project is an extension of the Higher Education in Prison Landscape Project, inclusive of the Annual Survey of Higher Education in Prison Programs and the National Directory of Higher Education in Prison Programs.

The person in this position will be responsible for managing and directing the activities of the project team and participants, updating and maintaining notes, agendas, and records related to research development, design, and administration, writing project and data analysis reports (for internal records and public distribution), and developing and managing schedules to ensure timely project completion. The Research Manager must possess exceptional communication, organizational, time management, and leadership and team-building skills, as well as familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research designs.

The Manager will work under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr. Erin L. Castro and Senior Research Associate, Cassie Knaff at the University of Utah. We strongly encourage applications from individuals directly impacted by legal systems.

This is a 12-month position, paying $60,000 – $69,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. The start date is May 16, 2024. The position is a full-time, benefitted staff position. Work schedule: M-F, 8AM-5PM. Travel, nights, and weekends may be needed. The Research Manager will work remote or on-site at the University of Utah.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with project partners, program associates, state liaisons, and others to ensure appropriate communication and workflow to ensure project completion.
  • Coordinate project team meetings and associated logistics (including agenda development, meeting notes, and other documentation).
  • Track processes and ensure proper communication of timeline with project leads.
  • Support and provide leadership to other project management activities, including developing and maintaining research procedures and timelines, supporting data management, communicating with stakeholders, supporting technology needs, ensuring IRB compliance, and supporting technical assistance throughout the project.
  • Write reports for internal and external distribution.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree + two years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of postsecondary education research and data infrastructure
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge about educational equity
  • Experience working on and/or managing a multi-site research project
  • Experience conducting applied social science and/or educational research
  • Bachelor's degree + two years of related experience or 10 years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
  • Proficiency with qualitative and quantitative analysis software
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Advanced experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of the field of higher education
