Job Summary

The Statewide Community Outreach Coordinator will support all aspects of a robust and strategic Community Outreach Program by: investigating and pursuing strategic partnership and outreach opportunities; coordinating directly with Museum departments to develop relevant and current content and curriculum for community outreach activities; creating and implementing an annual work plan for statewide community outreach, including all logistical and delivery aspects of the Traveling Treasures and Explorer Corps programs; maintaining database of individuals and organizations related to outreach partners. This position will also supervise statewide community outreach volunteers.

Responsibilities

The Statewide Community Outreach Coordinator will:
• Oversee the day-to-day operations by organizing and managing offsite community outreach opportunities; promoting the Museum's exhibits and programs, including developing and facilitating STEM-based programming, working directly with partner organizations, and handling logistics.
• Manage outreach supplies for statewide programming.
• Recognize and respect differences, and foster collaborations that support connections between Museum exhibitions, collections, and research, and program participants' lives, perspectives, and experiences to ensure inclusive experiences at NHMU.
• Develop, foster, and sustain long-term relationships with key community partners; work closely with community partners to better understand community needs for enriched interactions.
• Establish short and long-term objectives in collaboration with the Community Programs Manager. By identifying key partnership opportunities; leveraging NHMU's exhibits, collections, and programs, prioritizing rural communities, and by maintaining a rotational schedule to visit communities statewide.
• Maintain records to support and advance the program, including a database of community partners and relevant annual events.
• Prepare reports by tracking program data, including audience numbers and demographics; assist in establishing protocols for data capture, evaluation, and impact.
• Work with the Collections Registrar's office to adhere to artifact handling protocols and the Museum's pest management policies to continuously advance Community Outreach's efforts to care for artifacts on loan and to clean and inventory supplies.
• Train and supervise the statewide community outreach volunteers.
• Must possess a valid driver's license; ability to travel and occasionally remain overnight as needed for delivering programs statewide; and may require 4-6 hours driving in a single day.
• Ability to manage/lift up to 50 lbs. and drive a panel truck or other oversize vehicle. This is an essential function of the job which will involve moving our Traveling Treasures mobile exhibit.
• Occasionally required to work evenings and weekends as needed for outreach program delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), and two years related experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Preferences

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or related discipline; two years of related experience or equivalency; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience working with Utah organizations and in communities statewide preferred.
• Experience working with culturally diverse populations preferred.
• Broad knowledge of natural history topics preferred.
• Ability to speak conversational Spanish and translate interpretive documents into Spanish preferred.
