Job Description

The Assistant Program Director will work alongside the Director and will be responsible for developing and directing non-research activities that address the four key actions. This role includes multiple responsibilities, including...

· Cultivaterelationships with new community partners and enacting strategies to engage the university community in the HEI community-based projects.

· Assist with developing/implementing health assessments with community-wide reach.

· Facilitate/organize training programs (e.g., strategic planning, developing a 501c3, program evaluation, grant writing) and Citizen Scientist programs to build the capacity of community partners and health science researchers to work together.

· Coordinate/oversee a community research educational track that trains undergraduate students in community-based health science research and provides a post undergraduate supported internship.

· Coordinate the HEI mini-grant program to support community-engaged projects conducted collaboratively between researchers and community partners.

· Write extramural grants (e.g., CDC, HRSA, PCORI, health-focused foundations).

· Coordinate community forums, listening sessions and other opportunities to hear from the community, share HEI and other health-focused project findings, and identify effective community-engaged strategies to grow/sustain the work.

· Prepare manuscripts, conference abstracts/presentations, community presentations, and guest lectures as first and co-author with the HEI and Community Health Research Group team.

· Provide analysis of policies and regulations related to health equity and outline new/modified policies that impact improved health among underserved and marginalized communities in the urban metropolitan Kansas City and the broader Jackson County geographical area.

Excellent skills in oral and written communications are needed for success in this position.

Qualifications

Master's degree (MPH, MPA, MA) with a focus on public health, extensive community-engaged public health experience, and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in acquiring federal, foundation and other externally-focused funding.
  • Experience in working with Kansas City community-based organizations (e.g., faith-based, neighborhoods, youth organizations), health agencies, and government institutions.Willing towork some weekends and evening in collaborations with these organizations.
  • Experience with Community-based research processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in developing and evaluating health promotion programs in underserved communities while working in underserved communities.
  • Having scholarly products such as published manuscripts and presentation at public health conferences
  • Mentoring other interested in public health careers

Full-time, unranked academic benefit eligible position working approximately 30+ hours a week (.75 FTE). This position is open until filled.
