Job Description Summary:
A professor on the tenure track who also serves as the Vice Chair for training grants in the Department of Internal Medicine; Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Genetics at the University of Kansas Medical Center. This position will enhance the department's current interdisciplinary research strengths with opportunities to collaborate with outstanding scientists pursuing basic and translational investigations. The professor will demonstrate a record of originality and productivity in research.

Required Qualifications:

Education:
  • MD or PhD degree or equivalent.


Work Experience:
  • Experience as a professor at an accredited medical school in the United States or equivalent
  • Established record of scholarly productivity related to basic science (diabetes, metabolism, nutrition, cell, molecular biology, or genetics) and/or clinical investigation.
  • Experience with teaching students
  • Documented expertise in basic science (diabetes, metabolism, nutrition, cell, molecular biology, or genetics) and/or clinical studies are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong track record of leadership at an academic medical center or similar environment, and a demonstrated portfolio of professional successes.
  • Strong record of research and scholarship as demonstrated by a consistent track record of funded research and nationally recognized publications.


Job Duties Outlined:
  • Engage in multi-investigator research efforts.
  • Applicant will pursue basic, translational, and/or clinical research in diabetes, metabolism, and obesity to identify therapeutic targets and interventions for metabolic disease conditions.
  • Establish and maintain a significant research training grant program.
  • Design a structured training program for Translational and Molecular Sciences T32.
  • Develop knowledge of funding sources and processes for acquiring internal and external research support.
  • Establish collaborative, cross-departmental interactions with research centers within the university.
  • Teaching or mentoring students at all degree and post-graduate levels.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chair of the Department.
