Position Description

University Medical Center (UMC) and the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine seeks candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor position to serve as team member for the Palliative Medicine Program at UMC.

TTUHSC Department of Family Medicine - Palliative Program

The clinical program at UMC is a well-established Palliative Care program provided by a multidisciplinary team. A consultation service provides care across inpatient units including a multitude of ICU and medical surgical units. A newly developed outpatient Palliative Care Clinic in the UMC Cancer Center is being expanded. This service will be essential as UMC builds a new state of the art Cancer Center.

Contributes to the university's mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor and applicable salary are dependent upon candidate's qualifications and experience.

Major/Essential Functions

Responsibilities include serving as division chief leading the palliative team implementing clinical programs for the multidisciplinary Inpatient Palliative Care Consult Service and expanding the Palliative Care Clinic in the UMC Cancer Center. The division chief serves as the leader for palliative services for UMC and participates in medical staff leadership for the hospital. The responsibilities include clinical work within these services. This faculty position will also participate in medical student, resident, and fellow education.

Candidates should have strong leadership, clinical, and educational skills, a demonstrated commitment to all missions of the division, and proven excellence in mentoring, leadership, and administrative abilities.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build on an enormously strong foundation of excellence, including innovative research, renowned clinical services, and prominent educational programs including a fully accredited HPM fellowship program.

It is preferred that applicants be hospice and palliative medicine certified or eligible in a medical specialty related to Palliative Care. Applicants should have a valid professional license of documentation that application for license is in process.
