DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Epidemiologist in the Bureau of Epidemiology, you will support the organization's mission of protecting the public's health through its responsibility for providing consultative, scientific and technical expertise in the analysis and interpretation of epidemiologic data to prevent and control healthcare-associated infections as part of the Healthcare-associated Infection Prevention/Antimicrobial Stewardship (HAIP/AS) program.
You will serve in a leadership position for the outbreak team within the HAIP/AS program, with the designation of HAI Outbreak Lead. The position will include collaboration with other another outbreak Epidemiologist and overseeing the work of contracted employees which may include Infection Preventionists and Applied Epidemiology Specialists, trainees and interns.
Other duties include; provide epidemiologic support and direction for program activities under the CDC-funded Strengthening Healthcare-associated Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Programs Capacity (SHARP) grant in cooperation with other outbreak Epidemiologist, project managers, and the supervisor, and lead our program's participation in the HAI/AR Outbreak Reporting System Pilot developed by CDC. Coordinate with CDC to submit multi-drug resistant organism (MDRO) data and other HAI/AR responses activities at the appropriate intervals as determined by CDC.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
- Public Health Emergency Response: This position may be assigned to an emergency assignment to support the public health emergency response mission of the Department of Health. Emergency assignments could at times be received with little or no advance notice and may continue for any period- ranging from a few hours to several weeks, depending upon the nature of the circumstance. The emergency assignments may at times be performed under adverse conditions and may require travel to another site other than the employee's assigned headquarters for periods of time.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Possession of either a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in epidemiology, Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO), Dental Surgery/Medicine (DDS/DDM/DMD), or Veterinary Medicine (DVM); AND two years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system; or
- Possession of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in a biological science such as biology, genetics, nursing or virology; AND either a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or Master of Science (MS) degree in epidemiology; AND two years of professional experience investigating disease outbreaks, designing and conducting epidemiologic studies, or designing and maintaining a disease surveillance system.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
