Job Description:


The Division of STEM at Oakton College is looking for enthusiastic individuals to serve in several roles for this A.I. Academy at the Skokie campus, Monday through Thursday during the weeks of June 3rd and June 10th.

Instructor

Positions available:

All day from 8:30am - 4:30pm, or
Morning from 8:30 - 12:30, or
Afternoon from 12:30 - 4:30

Responsibilities include:

Curriculum development that may include:

Ethics in A.I.
Programming and coding
Careers and practical applications of A.I.
Hands-on activities, challenges, games, etc.

Classroom Management

Qualifications:
  • Require a demonstration of understanding ways in which the context students live and learn influence their educational outcomes.
  • Require at least a bachelor's degree in education.
  • Require at least 3 years experience teaching youth ages 11-14.
  • Must have experience with computer technology.
  • Preferred experience with computer programming and/or artificial intelligence.
Pay: $40/hr for orientation and teaching,

plus two hours preparation at $50/hr

Coordinator

Positions available generally from 8:30am - 4:30pm

Responsibilities include:

Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, youths, and staff in oral and written expression.
Maintain a safe environment for participants.
Possess respect and appreciation for young people in ages 11 - 14.
Guide youth in discipline situations with compassion, firmness, and kindness.
Manage program logistics.
Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate and timely reports.

Qualifications:
  • Require a demonstration of understanding ways in which the context students live and learn influence their educational outcomes.
  • Must possess at least a bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Must have at least one year's experience teaching or working with youths ages 11 - 14 in an educational setting.
  • Must have experience with computer technology.
  • Preferred experience with computer programming and/or artificial intelligence.
Physical demands:

Occasionally walking, standing, stooping or bending
Hours may vary depending on demand.
Physical agility and stamina (occasionally to frequently)
Occasionally lifting, pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 15 pounds, seldom weighing up to 30 lbs

Pay: $28.50/hr including orientation

Mentors

Positions available from 7:15 am - 1:15 pm or 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Responsibilities include:

Assist with classroom setup (e.g., loading computer programs, setting up laptops)
Assist the instructor with class management
Answer student questions
Escort students to locations on campus (e.g., restrooms, cafeteria)
Help facilitate academy participants pickup and drop off
Assist with saving and uploading of student projects
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • At least 18 years or older.
  • Experience teaching, training, or tutoring.
  • Experience working with students ages 11 - 14 is a plus.
  • Must have experience with computer technology.
  • Preferred experience with computer programming and/or artificial intelligence.
Pay: $16/hr including orientation

Note

An orientation (paid) will be required for all positions the week of May 20th
