Grounds Supervisor
General Description:
To supervise a grounds crew and assign work to provide a clean, well-maintained facility in support of the teaching and administrative functions of the campus and to make the campus well-groomed and as safe and aesthetically pleasing as possible. Ensuring that the campus landscape areas are seeded, mulched, and mowed; that wooded areas are maintained; and that trash, ice and snow are removed promptly and thoroughly. Lead the grounds related work including preventative maintenance, repair, and small project work. This is a mid-level position.
Duties and Tasks:
- Oversee and coordinate grounds contractor’s work.
- Repair and perform preventative maintenance on grounds equipment.
- Support emergency operations as recalled by supervisor.
- Perform Grounds Maintenance and landscaping.
- Maintain and operate equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Assist B&G Trades staff with other duties including Snow Removal.
Required KSAs:
- Use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
- Ability to operate, repair and provide preventative maintenance on grounds equipment. Knowledgeable about landscaping, plant and trees and related issues and grounds practices.
- Ability to plan and program assigned projects and to organize and lead the work of assigned grounds personnel.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Some experience in operating and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Must hold a current Virginia license to spray weed killer.
- Significant years of working in Horticulture or Landscaping.
- Significant years in landscape management and supervising staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AAS degree in Horticulture of Agriculture Management.
