Disability Determination Services (DDS) exists to produce accurate and timely disability determinations for the residents of Nebraska following Social Security Administration (SSA) rules and regulations. DDS receives applications from SSA and makes a medical eligibility determination after gathering medical, psychological, functional, and vocational evidence.
Location negotiable. Employees are eligible to work remotely up to five days per week or in an SSA field office located in Nebraska.
Compensation:
$16.752 - $19.262/hour
This range is based upon available budget funds. The selected candidate’s skills, abilities, education, and experience will determine the salary offer within this posted range.
Promotional Opportunity:
Employees will be hired as an Adjudicator Trainee with the expectation of being promoted to an Adjudicator I after the successful completion of one year of training and on-the-job experience.

Examples of Work
- Participates in extensive formal classroom training to obtain current knowledge of DDS regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Reviews incoming cases to determine the type and amount of documentary evidence necessary for adjudication of cases. Manages large volume of cases to meet production standards.
- Establishes a record of requests for evidence, follow ups, receipt of evidence, and other accumulations of file notes.
- Reads and analyzes evidence (e.g., medical reports, activities of daily living, vocational reports).
- Evaluates all evidence in case files to assess severity and duration of impairment, residual functional capacity, and future opportunity to engage in work activities.
- Prepares written reports to support medical decisions and paperwork for adjudication based on policy direction.
- Demonstrates commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Qualifications / Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree. Any equivalent education and\or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Health Services Management, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Management, Social Work, Human Services) and previous experience in case management and analyzing medical information. Bilingual in English/Spanish.
