Help the Wisconsin State Journal team captivate and engage audiences by joining our award-winning staff as a sports reporter.

We are looking for an ambitious reporter with a passion for examining trends and issues involving high school sports while aggressively seeking to break news. This person primarily will be part of our four-person high school coverage team, but there will be opportunities to help with University of Wisconsin coverage.

The job will be based out of our Madison office, which is located a short drive from the state Capitol. Madison offers plenty to keep you busy, from live theater and concerts to incredible biking and hiking opportunities.

You will be part of the state's lone AP Sports Editors Triple Crown winner, a staff that encourages creativity and experimentation in how we tell stories, and there will be ample opportunities to collaborate with colleagues on ideas that interest you.

We want to empower you to tell great stories using words, video, audio, graphics and images while ensuring all our stories have the greatest potential to connect with our readers.

The right candidate will:
  • Be dependable and comfortable multitasking to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrate an eye for enterprising angles: Context and analysis are crucial to success in this position.
  • Enjoy collaborating with others to tackle bigger issues that resonate with readers.
  • Show an ability to create content beyond the written word.
