JOB SUMMARY:

To perform various entry, mid and advanced-level functions associated with the packaging, insertion, distribution, and mailing of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, other publications and commercial products. Employees in this category are candidates for future full-time positions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.Program, set-up and run stackers, strappers and conveyor lines. Repair (clear jams and reefed strap) or reload strapping machines. Inspect and operate pallet jacks (after required training). Handle plastic and cardboard waste, operate vertical balers. Assist mailers and lead mailers with inserter machine setup an product staging.

2.Reconfigure floor equipment including stackers, conveyors and strappers as needed for production runs. Monitor packaging production equipment, bundled product, and mail product on processing lines. Verify insert products and bundle counts are correct.

3.Feed preprinted advertising materials into inserting machines in a timely and quality oriented manner.

4.Stack down bundled products on pallets or in carts in a timely and quality oriented manner. Ensure carts are properly tagged and dispatched for transportation.

5.Process mail (ink-jet or pressure sensitive labeled) product on production lines.

6. Complete other more elaborate tasks and reports as required in the absence of mailers. Assist with the training of temporary labor. Provide feedback to supervisors on quality-related matters.

6.Transport and stage pre-prints, load insert hoppers and verify accuracy

7.Program, setup and operate packaging equipment.

8.Stack down newspaper bundles on pallets/carts. Tag and direct carts for transportation.
