Niche Publications is seeking a detail-oriented and supremely organized journalist to take on the role of copy editor and staff writer for three of its St. Louis-based magazines: Ladue News (community, culture and lifestyle), St. Louis Best Bridal (bridal) and ABODE (interior design).
The copy editor will be directly responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy and tone of all content across the publications. Their main duty will be to copyedit, fact-check and proofread all articles for print and digital, as well as write feature stories on a regular basis. This position is perfectly poised for someone looking to grow their career in the magazine publishing and community journalism industries.
Ideal candidates are skilled at multitasking, have an adaptable workflow and a positive attitude. The Niche staff operates efficiently and effectively through collaborative teamwork and caffeine. Our new copy editor and staff writer will work closely with the entire Niche editorial team and will be responsible for fostering and elevating each brand's growth through excellent quality control, consistent pitch generation and assistance with miscellaneous editorial tasks. The person in this role must share the staff's dedicated mission of connecting St. Louis' community to strong stories of people doing amazing things in our area.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Bachelor's degree in journalism, media, communications or related field and 2 to 3 years of progressive experience in magazine editing and content development.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fact-checks, copyedits and proofreads all content under the lead of the managing editor to ensure accuracy and adherence to house and AP styles.
- Takes part in editorial meetings
- Models excellence in writing, editing and deadline compliance
- Writes and reports as needed for the print magazine and website.
- Pitches ideas for the editorial calendar in line with the strategic voice and vision for the publications
- Acts as representative for the magazines, attending events and promoting the brands in the community.
- Stays on top of what's current in the local cultural news and keeps abreast of national trends
Bachelor's degree in journalism, media, communications or related field and 2 to 3 years of progressive experience in magazine editing and content development.

- Command of AP Style and editorial best practices
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong writing and editing abilities
- Solid story-pitching abilities
- Fantastic organizational abilities
- Demonstrated experience in magazine publishing
- Understanding of and experience in digital and social media
- Ability to juggle multiple deadlines and projects
- Desire to connect with the local community and develop strong working relationships with contributors
- CMS and SEO expertise preferred
