The Napa Valley Register, an award-winning newspaper in the North Bay, is looking for a versatile reporter to help cover the billion-dollar wine industry with a focus on the land, people and businesses that work it. This is a hard-news beat, as features on winemakers, food pairings and events are ably covered elsewhere in our shop.

Instead, it is a mix of agricultural, labor - which necessarily involves exploring the tensions between those who pick the fruit and those who own the fields - and environmental journalism. This beat crosses over several others in the newsroom, so having a collaborative spirit is key to success. Additionally, as many of the people who work in the fields speak limited English, the ability to conduct interviews in Spanish is extremely important.

Despite its outsized importance for Napa County, we have not had a labor or environmental reporter for some time, so this is a chance to truly cut your own path and make it your own. But because of this, the successful candidate will have several years' experience in labor, business or environmental reporting - or very strong clips from another beat.

The Napa Valley Register is located just north of downtown, and we emphasize a supportive and engaged work environment. We work hard, but we stress work/life balance and a team atmosphere.

We also offer a competitive and affordable benefit program, which includes medical, dental, vision, LTD, STD, and life insurance.
