Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) PSEP Trainer (Pesticide Safety Education Program)
The Department of Environmental & Molecular Toxicology is seeking a Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) PSEP Trainer (Pesticide Safety Education Program). This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) aims to protect human health and the environment through education and service to wide-ranging communities in Oregon. The PSEP Trainer supports the PSEP by developing educational materials in English and Spanish for publication (i.e. technical manuals), for the web (i.e. online modules/courses), and for live workshops (1 hour – 3 days) that promote best practices in IPM and pesticide safety. Focused on agricultural settings, this position will provide education about pest management in farming, forestry, and nursery production, serving as a resource for farmworkers, pesticide handlers, and agricultural employers. This position will also deliver training in person for adult learners, providing subject matter expertise.
Position Details:
- Provides subject-matter expertise, technical assistance, and training in pesticide safety topics.
- Designs and delivers educational programming related to complex science topics, working with faculty to build and improve the quantity and quality of web-based education from PSEP. Web-based courses will range from self-directed one-hour modules to multi-day hybrid courses with frequent interaction.
- Creates and/or modifies manuals that are used by pesticide applicators when studying for license examinations. Leads the process to establish learning objectives, visuals, and exams.
- Designs and delivers educational programming related to pesticides and their effects on humans and the environment to a diverse population of adults.
- Coordinates with partners in government, industry, and academia to ensure that learning objectives, study materials, and exams are 1) grounded in sound science; 2) optimized to promote adoption/maintenance of safety practices; and 3) consistent with state and federal laws.
- Listens to stakeholders, students, and other clientele about their challenges, needs, and opportunities. Develops relationships with people and organizations (i.e. Farmworker advocacy organizations, Farm Bureau, Oregon Association of Nurseries, etc.). Participates as a subject matter expert and a partner in protecting human health and the environment.
- Evaluates educational programs, materials, and content using research-based methods; Develops summaries, reports, scholarly work, and/or presentations to share results of evaluations and lessons learned.
- Participates in development of reports for stakeholders, peers, and funders, as needed.
- Seek out and participate in courses, seminars, conferences, workgroups, professional coaching, or similar methods to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the fields of agricultural pesticide safety and extension education
- Provide service to the organization, the College, and the University. Serve on professional society, Department, College, University, and other committees as appropriate.
