The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for an assistant professor tenure-track position to begin September 2025.
The Department of CSEE is one of two four-year NSA National Centers for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense in the state of Washington, and offers academic programs leading to bachelor's and master's degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Cyber Operations, a Bachelor of Science Cyber Operations, an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Computer Science, an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a Master of Science in Computer Science. The program has recently received a significant investment by the state of Washington and is anticipating substantial growth in the coming years.
EWU's Cybersecurity Program is in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Cybersecurity/Computer Science has 10 faculty members and approximately 400 undergraduate and 10 masters' students. The department resides in the Catalyst Building located in downtown Spokane's University District. This facility is a public-private partnership with the regional tech industry to create a high-tech hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. All faculty are expected to actively participate in curriculum development, assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching including teaching practices and interactions with students with emphasis on student retention and a culture of belonging.

Required Qualifications:
  • A PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching all levels of Cybersecurity/Computer Science coursework.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in innovative research and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching and/or research expertise outside of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Deep Learning
  • Security Operations Center experience/expertise

Responsibility / Duty: A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service, and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.

Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
  • Meet all scheduled classes;
  • Engage in culturally responsive teaching practices that support all students;
  • Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales;
  • Schedule and attend office hours;
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines;
  • Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities.

  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
