East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Director of Residential Life, Housing, Dining (RLHD)! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the Director of Residential Life, Housing, Dining (RLHD), you will need to think creatively and be overseeing a 2300-bed residence hall system. You will be an active member of the Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence team and will work closely with the VP to provide vision, oversight, and management for the ESU's student residential experience and dining programs. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your higher education residential life and progressive supervisory experience while developing an innovative strategic vision for the department and students that aligns with ESU's strategic plan. To be successful in this role, you must have team and collaborative work habits, strong supervisory skills, and empathetic listening skills.

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm and as business needs demand. On-call rotation and some weekend and evening work will be required. Housing on campus is not available for this position. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The operational activities of this work environment are deadline-driven and require frequent pivoting.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
  • Create the vision for RLHD; create and establish an implementation plan for ESU's student housing and dining programs in alignment with the university's strategic goals.
  • Create proactive policies and procedures in collaboration with other necessary departments.
  • Create a residential environment that values student dialogue, collegiality, integrity, respect, excellence, critical thinking, belonging and student-centered learning.
  • Build, develop, train, and evaluate a strong team committed to student learning, inclusivity, quality services, engaging communities, and collaborative relationships throughout campus.
  • Provide oversight and supervision to major housing operations, including opening and closing of all residential spaces, housing assignments, move-in, collaboration with facilities, managing the room change process, billing, policy enforcement, and producing reports as needed.
  • Provide leadership for professional and student staff to initiate, implement, and evaluate educational and social programs.
  • Manage the Housing/Dining budget and maintain appropriate records and financial controls.
  • Serve as a Hearing Officer in an educationally based disciplinary process. Conduct hearings, determine sanctions, follow up or refer as appropriate, and keep accurate records. Ensure due process and the timely and equitable treatment of all parties engaged in the student conduct system.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Care Team.
  • Work collaboratively with various campus stakeholders, community agencies, parents and families to provide resources and support for prospective and current students.
  • Support Residence Hall Association programming and leadership development.
  • Create and oversee special housing/dining opportunities and initiatives.
  • Serve as member of the Campus Life On-Call rotation.
  • Respond to medical, safety, and security emergencies; conduct welfare checks as needed.
  • Maintain the on-call calendar and emergency response procedures for Housing/Dining staff members in conjunction with other departments and the Dean of Students.
  • Provide annual reports and conduct routine assessments of programs.
  • Meet with student groups regularly to assess the needs of residential students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
  • Master's degree in student development, higher education administration, or related field.
  • 6-8 years of professional experience in higher education residential life, housing/dining and/or large event management.
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive supervisory experience.
  • Technical: Advanced hands-on skills with Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint. Experience with housing/dining software programs such as StarRez preferred.
  • Collaboration: Exchanging information, ideas, thoughts and feelings thoughtfully with others in a manner that is proactive and enhances partnerships
  • Communication: Able to communicate and effectively present information in small and large group situations, as well as one-to-one situations with students, parents, visitors, faculty and other employees of the organization. Possess excellent public speaking skills and ability to project a positive image for ESU. Able to read, write, and comprehend English, simple and complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Strong empathetic listening skills.
