Industrial Hygienist
Employer seeks experienced industrial hygienist (3 + years) to join a growing team at an established industrial hygiene consulting firm based in the Philadelphia area.
Salary commensurate with experience. (Range: $30.00/hour to $40.00/hour)

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION
Technical Knowledge and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree or better in Industrial Hygiene or closely related field with formal training in occupational safety, health, and/or environmental topics.
- The following licenses are a plus: Asbestos Building Inspector, Lead Investigator, Infrared Thermographer, Stucco Inspector, Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist.
- Knowledge of sampling techniques and use of equipment needed to conduct industrial hygiene, safety, and environmental evaluations.
- Ability to research and interpret regulations, occasionally in time sensitive situations.
- Focused ability to make detailed observations and decisions in a sometimes-chaotic environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use judgment in applying regulatory requirements to specific situations encountered on projects with a strong commitment to compliance with government regulations and our company's standard operating procedures. The Industrial Hygienist will act in an authoritative capacity to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Basic mathematical and time management skills.
Supervisory Skills
The Industrial Hygienist is a top technical person, thus, all aspects of project work including design, decision-making, advising, methodology, etc., may be carried out autonomously by the Industrial Hygienist. The Industrial Hygienist acts as the client's representative on-site and often has authority over others, supervising junior technical personnel and interacting with individuals with various personalities and working styles.
Complexity of Tasks
The Industrial Hygienist performs a variety of duties often in chaotic or potentially hazardous circumstances. The Industrial Hygienist must be knowledgeable of a variety of complicated industrial hygiene and safety issues and regulations. Knowledge of and adherence to applicable government regulations, standard operating procedures, project specifications, and safety measures are paramount in accomplishing project goals and satisfying client needs.
Physical Demands
The work can be active and sometimes stressful, requiring lifting, continuous walking, and other manual tasks to supervise work, make observations and establish a visual presence at project locations. A baseline physical is required at the start of employment; an annual physical is required thereafter, and a close-out physical is required at completion employment. The medical examination is done at company expense during normal work hours.
Work Environment, PPE and Travel
Work is performed in various settings, which include industrial and potentially hazardous environments. Safety procedures are to be followed. The industrial hygienist will be provided, at company expense, all safety equipment necessary to perform any job task, except for work boots. Work boots must be paid for by the incumbent and must be steel-toed, steel shank, electrically non-conductive and have slip-resistant soles. While most work is within vehicle commute distance from the office, some work does require travel. All travel expenses and travel time are reimbursed or paid directly.
