Carmichael's Honey Farm, Inc. has openings for Beekeepers in Carencro, LA. Job duties include work with bees in all stages, from the egg through fully developed workers, drones and queens; working in all aspects of commercial bee keeping, including accessing a colony to determine if it needs food or medicine; feeding and medicating bees, maintaining hives in a healthy state, increasing number of hives, raising and replacing queens, making divides; making, painting and cleaning boxes. Worker must harvest/extract honey, as well as run queen breeding yard and produce queen bees. Worker must manipulate and service hive structures and haul bees to and from different hive locations to ensure healthy and productive honeybee colonies. Worker must respond correctly to bees to harmonize with their natural cycle and keep them in the healthiest state possible for survival and profitability. Work involves working out in the fields where temperatures may range from 10 to 110 (or higher) F. Worker must be able to be on feet or in bent positions for long periods of time as work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Duties during off-season include, preparing supplies for following year, including boxes, pallets, Nucs; maintain bee health by feeding and application of artificial pollination. Additionally, during the off-season winter months, employee must perform general maintenance and service of the facility as well as the equipment. Travel Between worksites in St. Landry, Acadia, Vermilion, and Lafayette Parishes, LA. Must have 6 months of experience in Bee Farming or Similar Occupation. No minimum education required. No training required. Valid driver’s license required; no known allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, bees or bee stings as position involves work with live bees.
