The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Division Director located in Anchorage, Alaska.
The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services (HARS) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Division Director located in Anchorage, Alaska. This is an exempt position - appointed by the Commissioner. Are you a dynamic leader interested in the challenge of leading, inspiring, and collaborating with professional staff who guard the statutory rights of justice involved individuals to receive essential health care while incarcerated?
This position will be working with the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, Division Directors, Division Operations Manager, Press Information Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Mental Health Officer and Administrative Officer, and many other staff to carry out the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the Division of Health and Rehabilitation. Working with management on staff workflow, staffing patterns, budget and the delivery of health and rehabilitation services. Developing and implementing special projects that will continue to ensure professional growth for staff, fiscal responsibility across the Division and delivery of quality care and services.
This position is also responsible for providing informative information to the Legislature via request, presentations, and testimony. Work with outside agencies such as Law, Health, Ombudsman, Mental Health Trust Authority.
The Director is responsible for ensuring the Department policies and procedures regarding health and rehabilitation services follows current Federal and State statutes.

This position is part of the Senior Leadership of the Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services (HARS) and holds high level responsibilities across the Department. HARS is a growing Division responsible for inmate physical health care, behavioral health care, sex offender treatment, substance abuse treatment, education and vocational programming, domestic violence programs and reentry services. This position will have many opportunities to develop new and creative programs, enhance and improve the quality of existing services, create opportunities for staff development and ensure the overall mission and vision are carried out. This position will be a part of a team that not only leads the work but leads the change. The Division continues to address many high priority issues including reducing the cost of the delivery of health care, ensuring program efficacy and efficiency, addressing the growing needs of mentally ill offenders, addressing the opiate crisis in our population, protecting public safety by implementing evidence-based treatment programs focused on addressing criminogenic needs and building and expanding reentry services. The Division Director will play an active role in evaluating and supporting clinical work in the facilities, reentry programs pre and post release, administrative functions, and the overall operations of the Division. Work schedules are flexible, travel to all 13 correctional facilities is required.
The working environment you can expect:
This position is based in the Department of Corrections' Anchorage Central Office. Other DOC offices/units located here include the Commissioner's executive offices, DOC's Human Resources, Procurement and Facilities offices. The HARS' units that work out of Anchorage Central Office include administration, mental health, reentry, medical social work, the Chief Medical Officer, lead health practitioners and nursing leadership teams. This is a positive, solution focused team that interact daily.
Who we are looking for:
The incumbent must have three years of professional experience in the health care, behavioral health, corrections or closely related field and two years of supervisory and/or managerial experience, which may be concurrent with the professional experience. The incumbent must hold the HARS Mission, Vision and Core Values in high regard and be able to lead by example. This position requires a person willing to work outside the box, learn and grow within the position with an overall goal of helping make the Department and the Division stronger. This position requires excellent written skills, knowledge of correctional practices regarding health care, reentry and safety. This position requires thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and current challenges facing corrections and health care; thorough knowledge of the federal and State statutes, regulations, and policies applicable to the mission of the division -- including ethical standards related to the delivery of health care; knowledge of the principles and practices of strategic planning, budgeting, personnel management, and public relations.
The individual must all be skilled in effectively juggling and prioritizing multiple conflicting responsibilities, needs and demands, and delegating to the proper designee, when appropriate. The incumbent must have demonstrated history of effective decision-making, skill in researching and analyzing problems and issues, developing potential resolutions or alternative courses of action and identifying their costs and benefits, determining the legality and feasibility of proposed options, identifying a best course of action, identifying the necessary resources and building the necessary support for that change, and effectively communicating the problem and its resolution to those tasked with implementing of the change.

Salary: $55.45 hourly or $4,158.75 Biweekly
